The fans of science fiction know Stanislaw Lem as one of the best sci-fi authors. One of the world's most widely read science fiction writers. His works include: The Chain of Chance, One Human Minute, The Cyberiad and much, much more... Lem's books were translated into thirty six languages with over twenty seven million copies. Lem is best known to English readers for his 1961 novel Solaris, on which Russian film maker Andrei Tarkovsky based his 1971 film. He is a creator of the character of the Universe explorer Ioan Tihiy.

An autobiographical novel (non-SF) finished in Zakopane in June 1965.
Translated by: M. Kandel as Highcastle; A Remembrance (San Diego & NY: Harcourt Brace Jovanovich, 1995).
Contains: An anecdotal, analytical autobiography covering pre-WW 2 events (mostly the 1930s) in Lwów (then in Poland, now Lviv in Ukraine). The main subject are Lem's late childhood and his adolescence (high school years).
