The Museum of Ethnography and Crafts

The Museum of Ethnography and Crafts is one of the most specialized ethnography museums of Europe and one of the richest artistic depositories of decorative-applied art of Ukraine. About 85 thousand relics are kept in its funds.
The history of the museum originates in 1874, when the city Industrial Museum was established in Lviv. Now the museum is placed in two houses. Constant exhibition developed in the main building (15, Svobody Avenue) has the departments of material and spiritual culture of our people: household occupations, folk artistic trades, interiors of folk dwelling of different ethnographic regions of Ukraine. In the Furniture and Porcelain Museum (10, Rynok Square) there are exposed Ukrainian and European furniture, textile, tapestries, metal, porcelain, faience from the Renaissance to the early 20th c.
The prevailing place among ethnographic sets is taken by the collection of folk clothes. The
fund is organically supplemented with enormous (over 18 thousand sets) collection of Ukrainian embroidery.
More than a hundred homespun Ukrainian carpets and European tapestries of the 17th - early 20th c. are kept in the textiles fund. Armenian carpets of the 17-19th c. and Jewisch cult and applied textiles are in the collection too. The only in Ukraine set of Coptic textiles* is especially unique.
